MR TORZI PRESS RELEASE

Friday, 03 December 2021 | Janes Solicitors

Mr Torzi is disappointed with District Judge Snow’s Italian extradition ruling handed down today and he is seeking permission to appeal. He was surprised at the District Judge’s decision not to consider the ruling of His Honour Judge Baumgartner as relevant to the matters before him, even though that ruling refers in detail to the multiple material misrepresentations made by the Vatican upon which the alleged Italian offence of self-laundering is based.

Mr Torzi has always maintained his innocence in respect of these matters and notes that the highest Court in Italy, the Court of Cassation has already annulled the warrant from which these extradition proceedings arise. He is hopeful that theextradition warrant will be discharged once the terms of the Court of Cassation’s ruling are released.

Mr Torzi is represented by Janes Solicitors and Francesco Meduri of Fidlaw Ltd. Counsel instructed for the hearing were Ben Cooper QC and Malcolm Hawkes of Doughty Street Chambers.
