The Misuse of Drugs Act and the drug supply sentencing guidelines: our expertise

With a deep understanding of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the wider legal landscape, we specialise in cases related to controlled drugs, from simple possession to more complex distribution or importation matters. Our legal experts are well-versed in the nuances of drug-related laws in the UK and are committed to protecting your rights and ensuring a fair legal process.

We regularly act in cases involving the National Crime Agency and regional police special operations units. Our track record includes successfully representing clients accused of importation or supply of very large quantities of drugs. Our particular specialism is representation in those cases described in the drug supply sentencing guidelines as: “Where the operation is on the most serious and commercial scale, involving a quantity of drugs significantly higher than category 1, sentences of 20 years and above may be appropriate, depending on the offender’s role.”

We also have a successful record in legal arguments regarding leading vs. significant role at sentencing and understand the deep importance that this has to our clients and their families. We work with renowned drugs experts and regularly commission reports to quantify drugs and cash, comment on quality or purity, or give expert opinion on our client’s role within the supply chain.

Since 2020 and the execution of Operation Venetic (The Times) we have also represented a large number of clients charged as a result of encrypted messaging recovered from Encrochat. We are particularly specialised in cases involving very large amounts of phone data or thousands of lines of messaging intercepted or recovered from platforms such as Encrochat, Wickr and Signal. We robustly test the evidence presented in cell site analysis and co-location cases, regularly working with the country’s leading forensic experts.
